AI and Tech Innovations in Market Research
Conveo lands $50M Series A for always-on consumer understanding
Consumer-understanding software company Conveo raised a $50 million Series A from DST Global Partners, Balderton Capital, Visionaries, 6 Degrees Capital and Y Combinator. Founded by Dieter De Mesmaeker and Hendrik Van Hove, the company uses AI-moderated qualitative interviews, multimodal analysis and a searchable consumer-context layer; it says it now serves more than 400 enterprise clients, including more than 50 Fortune 500 brands. Its newer StoryLines product keeps research running continuously around strategic topics, with results feeding dashboards, AI agents and enterprise integrations. The funding will support US expansion and Conveo's push to become broader enterprise consumer-intelligence infrastructure rather than a standalone research tool.
Alchemer launches AI-native feedback platform Iris
Alchemer unveiled Iris, an AI-native customer feedback and intelligence platform that brings together surveys, reviews, reputation management and other listening channels. Iris includes conversational navigation, an AI Survey Builder, automated probing and reporting, review-management assistance and workflow automation intended to turn findings directly into business action while preserving human approval. The platform consolidates capabilities Alchemer has been adding since launching Pulse in 2024, with general availability scheduled to begin in Q4 2026.
ISO 20252 gets a major AI, automation and data-quality update
The ISO/TC 225 committee released ISO 20252:2026, updating the international standard for market, opinion and social research. The revision adds explicit AI and automation policies and monitoring requirements across research practices, strengthens sampling and panel-management data-quality requirements, and updates provisions covering privacy, data protection and security. More than 400 research agencies are currently third-party certified to ISO 20252 globally, making the update a significant attempt to institutionalize AI governance rather than leave it solely to individual vendors and agencies.
Breakthrough Research introduces synthetic "Modeled Communities" for pre-research testing
Los Angeles-based Breakthrough Research launched synthetic respondent panels built from extensive interviews with real consumers. The company positions its Modeled Communities as a complement to primary research: clients can use them to pressure-test concepts, refine hypotheses, explore difficult-to-recruit audiences, test confidential ideas and improve questionnaires before committing to full fieldwork. Breakthrough says its R&D found the modeled respondents produced answers consistent with the underlying human participants, while president Dan Braker emphasized that the system is intended to augment, not replace, people-informed research.
THG Fluently launches cross-market validation for synthetic research
THG Fluently introduced a service for independently validating synthetic respondents, personas and insights across languages, cultures and geographies. Its approach combines AI quality frameworks with human evaluation to test cultural authenticity, linguistic accuracy and representativeness, with services including synthetic-output audits, multilingual benchmark validation and cross-market checks of AI personas. Managing director Omar Choudhry argued that independent validation should become standard practice as organizations increasingly use synthetic insight for commercial decisions.
Comscore adds ChatGPT advertising impact measurement
Comscore expanded its AI Intelligence offering with measurement designed to show the visibility of advertisements appearing alongside ChatGPT responses and connect that exposure with downstream digital traffic, engagement and consumer behavior. The development extends measurement beyond whether a brand appears in AI environments toward assessing what commercially happens after exposure—another sign that generative-AI interfaces are becoming a distinct media and measurement channel.
Greenbook's The Exchange examines AI moving from advisor to decision-maker
Greenbook published a September 2 episode of The Exchange titled "From Advisor to Decision-Maker: AI's Next Power Move," examining the shift toward AI systems that do more than assist human researchers and marketers. The episode framed the next phase around AI assuming a greater role in decision-making across areas including qualitative research and marketing measurement, reflecting the industry's broader move from generative assistants toward agentic systems.
B2B Market Research Developments
AI² Insights launches to help media executives separate AI value from hype
The founders of research and advisory partnership The Media League launched California-based AI² Insights, a business intelligence and research company aimed specifically at media and entertainment executives evaluating AI investments. Led by Fernando Amendola, the platform plans to analyze more than 200 industry AI use cases spanning more than 70 AI techniques while continuously monitoring more than 1,000 technology vendors and 1,000 media operators worldwide. Delivery will include the LLM-powered AI² Enquire interface, a research library and an industry-tracking dashboard, with beta access planned for October and general availability in January 2027.
Euromonitor puts Passport market intelligence inside Microsoft 365 Copilot
Euromonitor International developed a Passport agent that allows licensed business users to query its market intelligence directly from Microsoft 365 Copilot using natural language. The integration is designed to move syndicated market research out of a separate destination and into the productivity environment where business teams already work, allowing users to interrogate Passport data and insights without leaving Copilot. Euromonitor CTO Chris Fosberry positioned the integration as a faster, secure connection between the company's human-led market intelligence and daily enterprise decision-making.
Partnerships, Mergers, and Acquisitions
NielsenIQ teams with OpenAI Deployment Company to embed intelligence across enterprise workflows
NielsenIQ announced a collaboration with OpenAI's OpenAI Deployment Company intended to expand how NIQ data and AI products are accessed inside clients' existing systems and workflows. NIQ said the partnership would support an expanded version of its Optiq Chat insights agent and the launch of Optiq Bridge, which is designed to let clients embed NIQ data and AI models into their own platforms. Chief Product and AI Officer Troy Treangen framed the larger opportunity as extending NIQ intelligence into more applications and decision-making environments, not simply improving internal development speed.
Sample Ninja embeds Verisoul to fight panel fraud and AI bots
Panel-management company Sample Ninja integrated Verisoul's real-time fraud-detection technology directly into its platform. Verisoul can score panel registrations and project entries before respondents enter surveys, with detection aimed at repeat registrations, spoofed devices, proxies, location manipulation, AI agents and bots. Sample Ninja CEO and co-founder Tariq Mirza said the integration supplements the company's existing fraud defenses while attempting to minimize false positives and friction for legitimate respondents.

Expert Insights & Thought Leadership
Michael Turner warns against replacing evidence with "synthetic confidence"
PollStream CEO and Freshwater Strategy co-founder Michael Turner argued in Research Live that tighter budgets and rising demand for rapid evidence are creating conditions in which synthetic audiences can appear attractive precisely when rigorous human data is hardest to fund. He accepts that AI can accelerate analysis, quality control and research operations, but argues that opaque synthetic public-opinion systems become problematic when high-stakes public affairs or policy decisions require transparent, auditable evidence. His central case is that AI should improve the research process rather than eliminate the requirement for defensible human response data.
Kantar's Steve Wigmore says AI makes human validation more valuable, not less
In a Kantar-sponsored Research Live feature, Steve Wigmore argued that generative AI has dramatically lowered the cost of producing ideas, claims, campaigns and hypotheses—but has not solved the problem of deciding which choices will work with real people. He sees an opportunity for research teams to become the validation layer between AI-generated possibilities and business action, combining machine speed with consumer evidence, context and expert judgment. The implication is that the value of primary research may increasingly shift from generating options to establishing confidence in them.
Infotools' John Bird says AI has made research-software buying harder
Writing for the Insights Association, Infotools EVP John Bird argued that AI has made market-research software demonstrations easier to produce while making meaningful vendor differentiation harder for buyers. With both incumbent platforms and startups now promising conversational analytics, automatic summaries, faster reporting and instant access to historical research, Bird recommends looking beyond polished demos toward how products actually perform inside research operations. His argument reflects a maturing ResTech market in which proof, implementation and operational reliability are becoming more important than simply having an AI feature set.
